links

This has some useful random links that are generally useful to me:

Wilshire 5000 : This link shows Wilshire 5000 index which is the total USA stock market cap of all publicly traded companies. This is the most accurate indicator as it includes new companies too, so it shows the total money value of stock market that has to be supported by the money going in. Money going into stock market is a certain % of GDP + debt money. For USA stock markets, more than $500B of 401K money goes into stock market annually (about $10T is total income of all people in USA as per 2016 IRS reports, so about 5%-10% of total income goes into stock market annually), and looks like that’s enough to support stock market at some % of GDP.  Warren Buffett believes that anything over 100% of GDP is an overvalued state for stock market (based on his 1998 interview). But surprisingly, this time he still thinks that markets aren’t frothy (i.e still fairly valued) based on his 2014 interview, guess why he changed his own thinking ??? Markets have been over 100% of GDP in year 2000, 2007 and since 2013 and still running strong. Please keep running the money printing press !!

Top 50 companies by market cap in USA This is updated end of each month, so is more up to date. It also has archive starting from 2009.
Top 50 companies by market cap in World: Just to give an idea of how $100B market cap is so common now !! This link is not updated since 2017, so use link above

US Daily Treasury rates : This link shows treasury rates for bonds sold by US treasury. This is important indicator of leveraged money moving into stock market as any rates much lower than 8% (which is the avg annual USA stock market return) indicate that much incentive for money to be borrowed on debt and put into the USA stock market for virtually risk free return. 30 year rates at 3% since 2011 has provided a huge return for the stock market.

Deposit rates in Indian Banks:

State Bank Of India (SBI): No link found, https://www.onlinesbi.sbi is the SBI website.

ICICI Bank: (usually lower than Govt Banks):

Canara Bank: Offers best rate most of the times.

Union Bank: Usually better rates than SI, but worse than Canara bank.

Google Talk : Ths link allows you to directly download the old google talk from google website. Google seems to be moving everyone to new hangout, which personally I’ve found difficult to use with my relatives. This link will setup google talk on your desktop even if it’s windows 8 or higher.

ITIN : You need an ITIN when filing taxes in USA for a dependent who doesn’t have a valid social security number. This includes your spouse who might be in India and whom you wish to claim as a dependent, or your parents, brothers, sisters, etc who are a residents of USA for tax purpose and you wish to claim them as dependent. In such cases, you need to file form W-7, along with required documents (see links at the bottom for form W-7 and Publication 1915). In order to discourage people from applying for ITIN and hence getting tax benefits, IRS now only takes original copies of passport, birth certificate, etc. However, if you are diligent and do exactly as stated on this page, you can get ITIN for dependents valid for a term of 5 years. So, it’s a pain only the first time, after that it’s easy sailing !!

Infant weight/height chart : If you do a search for charts, you will usually see these CDC charts (US born boys/girls charts) . These charts are no to be used as they skew the numbers since American infants seem to be heavier and shorter. Instead use these World Health Organization charts , which take babies from all over the world and from all races to give the percentile score. These are more accurate, and even if your doctor uses CDC charts, you should stick with WHO charts. Apart from raw weight/height/head circumference chart, other important chart on the WHO link above is the growth velocity chart. Use these growth velocity charts to make sure that if even if your child is at the top or bottom of the raw charts, his growth velocity is OK. In the WHO link above, look at indicators section at the bottom. Follow links 1,2,6 for raw height/weight/head circumference and links 11,12,13 for growth velocity.
